Does this sound like you?

Monday. You tell yourself: tonight I'm working out.

Then the last call runs long. You grab lunch with colleagues, not what you planned. By 7 PM you're drained. Tomorrow is a new day.

Tuesday the same. On the weekend too much, too fast. Your back protests. Monday you're back at the office. The pattern repeats.

You manage projects, teams and deadlines. Every meeting is prepared, every week planned out.

But for yourself? No calendar block for training. No plan. The effort would be less than what you deliver at work every day. You know that. And yet it doesn't happen.

You're not undisciplined. You're someone who has everything under control professionally and privately is stuck in a cycle you can't break on your own.

Feeling good when you put on your clothes in the morning. Taking the stairs without being out of breath. Knowing how your body works and having the steering wheel back in your hands. That's possible.

Sören Hanakam — Personal Trainer Düsseldorf

Sören Hanakam

I know both extremes. Exercise addiction with 18 sessions per week, undernourished, 79 kg at 1.89m. And the opposite: 106 kg, no exercise, emotional eating phases, completely lost control of my body.

In between: 8 years in sales and key account management, 60-hour weeks, a daily routine that left no room for my own body. Plus two torn ankle ligaments (first in handball, then climbing) and recurring shoulder problems from years of weight training and team sports.

When cardiovascular disease hit my closest family, I reached the point where I knew: I don't just want to find my own way back. I want to help others before it gets that far.

Today I work as a personal trainer and movement coach in Düsseldorf. Not because I always wanted to be a trainer, but because I experienced first-hand what happens when you swing between extremes instead of finding balance.

Training that understands your body. Not just pushes it.

You don't lack motivation. You lack the right strategy. A plan that works with your daily life, not against it.

I work differently. We address the root cause: years of desk work and chronic stress have thrown your body out of balance. Movement patterns it once mastered have been forgotten. And your nervous system is permanently on standby.

We bring that back. Step by step. Foundation first, then load. Understand first, then challenge.

01

Targeting where it actually matters.

Movement patterns your daily life doesn't train: rotation, stability, coordination. We work specifically on what your body needs to stay resilient and pain-free long-term.

02

Understanding, not just sweating.

I explain why your body reacts the way it does. No motivational slogans, but real understanding of your patterns, your habits and your limitations.

03

Training 2.0 — beyond the norm.

No standard gym program. We work with rotational training, locomotion, clubbells and kettlebells. We rebuild movement competence your body already knows but has forgotten: throwing, rotating, coordinating. The full spectrum of biomechanics. Discover what your body is truly capable of.

Your path in three steps.

01

We talk.

A free initial consultation. 30 minutes, no trial session, no sales pitch. I listen, ask questions and show you why previous approaches haven't worked. Afterwards you'll know whether this is the right path for you.

02

I take a close look.

In a 90-minute movement assessment I analyse your posture, your movement patterns and your limitations. For the first time, you'll see in black and white why your body reacts the way it does.

03

We build your foundation.

Individually tailored to your assessment — whether 1x, 2x or 3x per week, in the studio, outdoors or via video. With app-based coaching and direct access to me between sessions. Not an off-the-shelf program, but a plan that evolves with you and your life.

How I work. And why.

Honesty

I tell you what I see. Even when it's not what you want to hear. No sugarcoating, no beating around the bush. You deserve someone who is straight with you.

+

Winners Mentality

I believe in self-efficacy. You can change more than you think possible today. My job is to show you the path and walk it with you. This mindset is contagious.

+

Commitment

I bring my knowledge, my time and my full attention. The best results come when we're both pulling in the same direction. When things aren't going well: tell me.

+

Reliability

When I say I'll take care of something, I do. Sessions, plans, feedback. People who can count on me become more committed themselves.

+

Exchange

You know your body and your daily life better than I do. I bring the expertise, you bring the experience. If something doesn't work for you, we find another way.

+

What we're working towards.

Self-efficacy. You make decisions about your health as clearly as you do at work. You learn how your body works, understand what it needs, and act on it.

Energy. You leave the third meeting of the day and still have capacity for the evening. Not because you push through, but because your body is better regulated.

Longevity. You invest in a body that still works in 10 years. Not a short-term program, but a foundation for health and mobility that lasts.

Quality of life. You enjoy your free time again instead of recovering from work. Your body carries your life instead of slowing it down.

Why conventional training often falls short.

  • Your body was made for far more than linear movements in a single plane
  • 8+ hours of daily sitting lets rotation, coordination and reactivity atrophy
  • Conventional gym programs don't address these deficits
  • My training targets exactly this: movement patterns your body knows but has forgotten. Using clubbells, kettlebells, locomotion and rotational training
  • Chronic everyday stress keeps your nervous system in permanent overdrive, even when you feel "relaxed"
  • This directly affects: sleep quality, recovery, injury susceptibility, eating behaviour
  • One intense weekend session can't undo five days of sitting, poor eating and broken sleep. Trying to compensate many small compromises with one extreme effort is the definition of a boom-bust cycle
  • Intelligent training considers the current state of your nervous system and works with it, not against it
  • Your body follows physical laws: levers, forces, joint angles. That's the biomechanical part
  • Your behaviour follows habits, beliefs and your environment. That's the psychological part
  • Writing a training plan is easy. Making it work when life gets in the way requires both
  • My degree in business psychology and my specializations in biomechanics (PRI, Human Matrix, Human Development, Rotational Movement Training) give me exactly this combination
  • Acute stress (targeted training) → your body adapts, becomes more resilient, grows
  • Chronic stress (60h weeks, poor sleep, constant cortisol) → breaks down, creates vulnerability, exhausts
  • Your body is designed to grow stronger through targeted stress. The principle of antifragility
  • My training uses acute stress strategically while accounting for how much chronic stress you already carry. Not more, but more targeted. Not harder, but smarter

I can absolutely recommend working with Sören. With his support, I've lost over 20 kg so far, something I could hardly have imagined at this scale. What was especially valuable wasn't just the training plan, but the knowledge about nutrition and proper technique.

I can absolutely recommend working with Sören. With his support, I've lost over 20 kg so far, something I could hardly have imagined at this scale. What was especially valuable wasn't just the training plan, but the knowledge he shared about nutrition and proper training technique. Thanks to that, I now understand much better how my body works and how I can train effectively and stay healthy long-term. Throughout the entire process, he was always available, kept me motivated, and guided me step by step. Especially with an office job and many working hours, it was extremely important to have someone who designs the plan realistically and sustainably. I'm really looking forward to continuing our work together and reaching the next goals.

Flexibility, understanding and clean guidance that lasts: Sören took intensive time before the actual training to understand my needs and goals, which made me feel completely seen and heard from the start.

Flexibility, understanding and clean guidance that lasts: Sören took intensive time before the actual training to understand my needs and goals, which made me feel completely seen and heard. My primary goal was building muscle strength without focusing on aesthetics (though those came as positive side effects). Where many take a "one size fits all" approach, Sören's individually oriented style creates a great mix of guidance and encouragement. He responds to feedback with empathy and professionalism, quickly earning my trust. With his support, I managed to sustainably strengthen my muscles, find joy in strength training as a woman, and redefine mental limits so that progress became visible quickly. Sören is THE trainer for anyone looking for athletic support in a demanding everyday life between work and family!

I've been training with Sören for 7 months now and I'm really very satisfied. In this time, I was able to reduce 6 kg of body fat and significantly improve my mobility and muscle strength. I especially notice these improvements in everyday life, for example when shopping or carrying water crates. As a self-employed person, his flexibility was particularly helpful, as we could optimally adapt the training sessions to my daily routine. The home training sessions were also easy for me to implement, making the training sustainable. Another big plus is the studio, which you can use for yourself. You can train in a quiet, pleasant atmosphere without distraction. I can unreservedly recommend Sören as a personal trainer. He was always there with advice and support and responded individually to my wishes and goals.

FAQs

No. The assessment shows me where to start, whether you haven't exercised in years or train regularly. I meet you where you are.

Then you're in the right place. I have my own pain history (two torn ankle ligaments, shoulder problems) and know from personal experience that targeted training can be a crucial part of the solution. My qualifications in rehab training and biomechanics give me the tools for this.

Important: I am not a therapist. For therapeutic treatment you need a physiotherapist or doctor. If you already have a diagnosis or a recommendation from your therapist, I can tailor the training accordingly. If not, we'll clarify your history through the intake form and initial consultation before we start.

That depends entirely on your situation: your daily routine, your body, your goals. My experience shows that with 2 to 3 hours per week and the right approach, adapted to your lifestyle, good results are very achievable. Training is only one building block. Nutrition, recovery and daily habits play an equally important role. What's realistic and effective for you, we'll figure out in the initial consultation.

We discuss that in the initial consultation, because the offer depends on your situation and goals. I don't offer one-size-fits-all packages, but individual solutions. The initial consultation itself is free and non-binding.

In person at my studio in Düsseldorf, at your home, office or outdoors. For clients who can't be there in person or travel frequently, I also offer online coaching. The core principle stays the same: individual support, just via video. What fits your routine best, we'll figure out in the initial consultation.

No. I work as a holistic health coach. Training is a central building block, but nutrition, stress management, sleep and daily habits are equally part of it. My standard is that you get a complete concept that works in your life. Not just a training plan gathering dust in a drawer.
